Photography, merchandise design, and wordmark for NxtGen Youth and Young Adults Ministry
I love designing for students because I don't have to take myself too seriously. Creating a brand look for NxtGen, a new ministry encompassing both "Youth" (middle and high school students), and "Young Adults" (18–28-year-olds), provided a unique challenge — how to make it fun enough for middle schoolers but not too "cute" for the college grads. I achieved this through adding bold, primary colors to a grounded, neutral palette, keeping things colorful without being overly playful. Using Helvetica as the main logo font kept the look clean and modern, while swapping the "E" for an edgy, blackletter font let students know we're not too uptight.
The ministry needed everything from announcement slides to invite cards to merch for their launch event, and I was happy to put my touch on every part of this new brand. The students and young adults alike readily embraced the new look, still copping their merch for months after the launch event. When it comes to design, there's nothing more satisfying than seeing something I created make an impact in the lives of real people.
